My family and I celebrate Eid ul-Fitr in my father’s extended family house at Balaimansiro, Payakumbuh, West Sumatera. The family house was typically a traditional Minangkabau house with a large rectangular structure, raised high above the ground, with a buffalo horn-shaped roof. The main room occupied much of the structure. Adjoining it was the living compartments, each filled by a woman, her children, and her husband when present.
