Ibnu Sina Institute for Fundamental Science Studies (IIS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia conducted the Annual Fundamental Science Seminar 2006 (AFSS 2006) from 6 to 7 June 2006. Prof. Michio Matsumura of Research Center for Solar Energy Chemistry, Osaka University, a visiting Professor of IIS from 5 to 13 June 2006, was invited as a plenary speaker in AFSS 2006. My poster presentation entitled “Transformation of the local environment of titanium surface species of titania by attachment of silica nanoparticles” has been awarded as the best poster in AFSS 2006.

Indonesian Student Association at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) invited me to give a talk on my experience as a postgraduate student and then a lecturer in UTM. This event was held at the School of Postgraduate Studies, UTM.

I, the staff of the Ibnu Sina Institute for Fundamental Science Studies and students of Excellent Scientist Programme (ESP), attend the Team Building course at Merang Suria Resort, Setiu, Terengganu for three days (23 to 26 February 2006). The course prepares participants to build and work with teams that value diversity. I found the course very enlightening and a lot of fun. We also visited Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM) at Kuala Terengganu.

Our paper entitled “Preparation and characterization of bifunctional oxidative and acidic catalysts Nb2O5/TS-1 for the synthesis of diols” by D. Prasetyoko, Z. Ramli, S. Endud and H. Nur published in Materials Chemistry and Physics, 93 (2005) 443-449, has been listed as Hottest article on Science Direct.
