My postgraduate students; Eriawan Rismana (PhD 2nd year), Lim Kheng Wei (MSc 2nd year), Izan Izwan Misnon (MSc 1st year), Gui Lee Kee (MSc 1st year) and Yong Khun Fong (MSc 1st year) presented their research progress at Department of Chemistry, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in fulfilment of the requirements for the first assessment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science.
I attend a course on how to write a scientific book at Pulai Spring Resort, Johor Bahru from 14 to 16 February 2006. This course is organized by UTM Publishers.
My Ph.D. student, Mr. Didik Prasetyoko, succeeded in defending his Ph.D. dissertation with very satisfactory. The examiners were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taufiq-Yap Yun Hin (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and Prof. Dr. Halimaton Hamdan (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia).
Words “Happy New Year 2006” are made with Capsicums. Capsicums belong to the family Solanaceae. Many peppers are produced by the plant classified as Capsicum annuum variety annuum. Those that bear the fruit known as pod pepper, red pepper, or capsicum are placed in the longum group within Capsicum annuum variety annuum, those that bear the green or red sweet pepper are placed in the grassum group within Capsicum annuum variety annuum, and the hot pepper is classified as Capsicum frutescens.
We stayed at my cousin (Inggo Laredabona and his wife Dr. Risyda; a dentist working at government clinic) house at Bandar Al Muktafi Bilal Shah (AMBS), Dungun, Terengganu for two nights with our children. We had the most fabulous relaxing holiday in a lovely small city of AMBS. We also visited Cemerung waterfall, 40 km from AMBS, one of the highest waterfalls in south-east Asia.

After living in Johor Bahru for more than 3.5 years, for the first time, my family and I pay a visit to King Abu Bakar Museum, Johor Bahru, which is located just about 15 km from our home.
My colleagues, Dr. Lia Dewi Juliawaty (Institut Teknologi Bandung), Amilia Linggawati (Universitas Riau) and Tati Herlina (Universitas Padjadjaran), visited UTM.
Dr. Hadi Nur has been successful in getting a research grant from The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Trieste, Italy. The title of the project is “Electrically induced contractile electro-active polymer as the catalyst for immiscible liquid-liquid reaction”.
